DR. GEOFFREY BLOCK HEADS NEW PILOT STUDY

Dr. Geoff Block is heading a new pilot study according to a Letter to the Editor which recently appeared in Hemodialysis International (2009, 13:360-2) entitled "A Randomized Double-Blind Pilot Study of Serum Phosphorus Normalization in Chronic Kidney Disease: A New Paradigm for Clinical Outcomes Studies in Nephrology."

This Pilot Trial will provide pivotal information to guide the conduct of a global randomized placebo-contolled trial evaluating patient level clinical outcomes associated with specific serum phosphorus targets. It will also provide data regarding the impact of phosphate binders on early changes in phosphorus homeostasis assessed with urine chemistry and serum levels of FGF23. This is the first of 3 or 4 articles Dr. Block plans to publish on this topic. Hats off to him and the other authors for finding the time to share their wisdom!
