Congratulations to John Polousky, M.D.

"Juvenile Osteochondritis Dissecans" by John D. Polousky, M.D. was recently published in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review, March 2011, Vol. 19, No. 1, pp. 56-62. Dr. Polousky is an orthopedic surgeon with the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.

Despite the fact that juvenile osteochondritis dissecans (JOCD) has been recognized for over 100 years, its natural history and best treatment options are poorly understood. Dr. Polousky discusses therapy based upon the stability of the lesion and initial response to treatment in his article. He recommends surgery only for unstable lesions and those not responding to therapy. He uses radiographic and arthroscopic characteristics of the lesion to determine the type and extent of the surgery required.

You are invited to come by the Denver Medical Library reference desk and pick up a copy of his interesting article.

Kudos to Pamela Whitlow!

Congratulations to P/SL neonatal nurse practitioner Pamela Whitlow, MSN, NNP-BC, CPNP, for having had an article recently published. It is entitled

"Update on Immunizations Commonly Used in the NICU"
Advances in Neonatal Care, Vol. 11, No. 3, June 2011, pp. 173-179

She states the latest recommendations for vaccinating premature infants, and explains why it is important for nurses to provide parents with reliable, verifiable information on this topic. She further explains why there is a delay in vaccinating premature infants in some circles, but why infants should still receive all routine childhood vaccinations at the same chronologic age as term infants.

You may pick up a copy of her article at the Denver Medical Library reference desk.
