Brendan Pendergast, M.D., Transitional Intern at P/SL was the lead author for the just-published article
"The Dynamic Tumor Bed; Volumetric Changes in the Lumpectomy Cavity During Breast-Conserving Therapy"
International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics
(July 1, 2009, Volume 74, Number 3, pp. 695-701).
The authors studied the magnitude of volume change in the postoperative breast tumor bed before and during radiotherapy. At the end of their research they discovered that the average postlumpectomy cavity undergoes dramatic volumetric change after surgery and during radiotherapy, and that the rate of change is inversely proportional to the elapsed time after surgery.
Please stop by Denver Medical Library to see a copy of Dr. Pendergast's excellent article on display at the front Reference desk.

PUBMED's "ADVANCED SEARCH" FEATURE SOON TO GO LIVE
The National Library of Medicine's PubMed database will go live with its Advanced Search feature soon. It will contain both the Single Citation Manager and most Limits all on one easy-to-use screen. A new section has been added to the bottom, Focused Queries, which provides links to Clinical Queries and Special Queries pages. Experienced searchers will want to use the Advanced Search feature because the PubMed homepage will eventually be changing to a Google-like search screen for the general public.
