Denver Medical Library is pleased to acknowledge David Herron, PhD, P/SL Department of Medical Physics, for his recently published article
"Exposure from the Large C-Arm Versus the Mini C-Arm Using Hand/Writst and Elbow Phantoms"
Journal of Hand Surgery, Volume 36A, April 2011, pp. 628-631.
Dr. Herron explains that invasive orthopedic procedures are increasingly reliant on fluoroscopy and that radiation exposure is a risk to both the patient and surgeon. He determined that the risk from using the large C-arm can be even less than the risk from using the mini C-arm if the extremity is placed directly on the intensifier.
You are are welcome to stop by the Library for a copy of Dr. Herron's paper.
